There is no ” I” in Team……..

To be a Champion in any team sport, comes down to the fact that, it’s not about one or two guys, it is totally a team effort and the Boston Bruins have proved that with the great season they are having. On the verge of yet another Stanley cup victory and the way they as a team rebounded from a lack luster performance in game two, they go two games to one in game three, in the best of a seven game series. Game three wasn’t just a win for the Bruins, they did so in the house of the St. Louis blues and in a dominating way, final score was seven to two, while going four for four on the power play also. This team has a good mix of veteran players, as well as great young talent, with a coach that has his finger on the pulse of each game. Chemistry is another part of being a true champion, it is how you are respected by your teammates, knowing your teammates so you can move as one on the ice with pin point passing, as you gain control of the puck away from the other team. The team whether on the ice or off the ice, has to bond together and be ready to battle for each other, like being a family, with the coaches being the parents of the family. These Boston Bruins are a special group, that have come together in harmony, as they put aside the ego’s to work hard at achieving the most prestigious trophy in all of sports…………….. Lord’s Stanley cup.

The Bruins might of dominated in last nights game three match up, but let’s not forget the St. Louis Blues, this team is built very similar to the Bruins, I am sure game four these Blues will be ready to battle once again, the Bruins will have to be ready for the fight and respond as they did in game three. To get this far and be the last two teams standing within the league, with a chance of being the champions of the hockey world, says a lot of both these teams, now with these Bruins being two wins away from the coveted prize, is no time to become comfortable, as the last two wins are just as hard as the last fourteen. For those true fans of the game of hockey, you have basically two seasons in one and we the fans are blessed with such a great game, now through the years the game has had some changes to it, like being a much faster game then years before, but the basics of the game stay in tact, like the first season being the regular season and the second season being the playoffs. With the playoffs there is a slogan we call ” Mission sixteen”, basically we call it that because it takes sixteen wins to win the playoffs and become the keeper of Lord’s Stanley’s cup.

My earliest memory of these Bruins was also against the St. Louis Blues, with the now famous greatest player to ever lace up the skates………… He is Bobby Orr and with an assist from Derek Sanderson, the rest is history with Bobby flying through the air in front of the goalie, for the goal and the winner of Lord’s Stanley’s cup. The Boston Bruins have a rich history and being one of the six original teams within the National Hockey League, not too mention some of the great hockey talent to wear the spoke “B” on their chest, is the reason why I myself Bleed black and gold. With two more wins this special team of the Boston Bruins can cement their names within the rich history of the organization.

Like Tom Brady has become the G. O. A. T. of the football world, we here in the city of Boston has witnessed two G. O. A. T’s of their sports, with Tom Brady and Bobby Orr. There is a lot of sports history here in the city of Boston and with the Bruins on the brink of winning a championship, along with the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots all in the same season, which hasn’t been done since the season of 1935/1936, truly gives this city of Boston the title of ” Titletown U. S. A.”.

I love the game of hockey, played the game when I was younger and with my favorite team so deep in the playoffs, like two wins away from winning Lord’s Stanley’s cup deep, it is very exciting right now, with all eyes on this special team. A team that has battled adversity all season, a team that has bonded together more than a team, they have bonded like a family on and off the ice and has been fun too watch this bonding all season. This team has been resilient all season and watching them in game two and game three, proves just how resilient they are, with an ugly performance in two, and a great performance in three. Would love to see this team finish mission sixteen, as not just for the reward for the players on a great season, but for the third time in the same season, the city of Boston can cue the Duck boats once again, for this type of celebration will never get old, especially with my favorite team.

” In team sports there is never an I, as it takes the whole team to work as one and become a true champion”

” The Stanley cup is the most prestigious and hardest trophy to win of all the sports, which makes hockey the coolest game on ice”

” To be a G. O. A. T. of your sport means that you are the Greatest Of All Time”

” Mission 16 in the game of hockey starts with the playoffs as you are on a mission to win 16 more games to be a true champion of the sport you play and love”

True Leadership qualities……

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

What makes a great Leader? We all tend to link being a leader with power and control, we get caught up in the mix that, Leader’s have to be in high positions, like, the President of a country, a CEO of a corporate company, or maybe an Owner of a sports team to name a few. Some of the greatest Leaders do so quietly with no fan fare, or looking for any kind or recognition.

Everybody has their own kind of Leadership ways, just that we don’t give ourselves enough credit for the way we Lead, we also don’t tap into our souls enough and try to find a Leadership role that best suits ourselves. Not all of us are suited to be a true leader and not all of us can be a Leader, as in the old saying, ” to many chiefs spoil the tribe” or ” to many Chef’s ruin the soup”. You don’t find a true Leader, as True Leader’s simply rise to the role with their actions and not their words.

Look at a guy like Tom Brady, the best Quarter Back in the history of the NFL. He doesn’t look to be more powerful or above the rest of his Teammates, he just shows up in practice and works hard each and every day, then executes that hard work on Game day. He shows his Leadership on the field, while he brings his team into the lead, to move forward with a “W” in the win column. All his Teammates adore him, cause he is so humble and approachable by all. Tom also gives advice to his Teammates, instead of saying ” do it this way or you won’t touch the football”. Okay it is true you may see him loud and yelling on the side lines on game day, but he does so only to wake up the team, so they can execute better, giving the team a better chance of winning the game.

A true leader leads by example, without losing the respect of those they try to lead. Raymond Bourque of the Boston Bruins was another great Leader, even though he wore the “C” on his jersey, it didn’t mean anything to him, as he showed up everyday practiced and played hard, so when his Teammates saw that, they to practiced and played hard, making the whole team a better team moving forward. Ray was a quiet guy that stayed out of the limelight, but with his actions on the ice, that is what spoke much louder than any words at all. Bobby Orr was the same way as he also let his actions speak for himself, they didn’t want to be singled out as a special player and they always spoke of the team/ put the team before themselves all the time.

True Leader’s never look for any fame or recognition, they never look to be more powerful than or even try to have all the power over the rest. A true Leader at the end of the day goes home like you and I and does his chores, like the rest of us. A Leader that we all take for granted and never give enough credit to, are our own parent’s. these Individuals help you grow in many ways, they show you by example on how to treat other’s, they guide you as you walk your path of this journey through life, they don’t just love you deeply and they don’t just quietly lead you on your path, they teach you all they know, as they to were led by their Parent’s, as they walked their paths through this journey of life. Parent’s don’t look for any recognition or any spotlight, they never look for any rewards, all they want is to lead you into prosperity, so you can be the best you can be, as you walk your path through this journey of life.

” A true Leader is a rare breed and never looks for any recognition or fame”

” A real and true Leader, leads by example and never pushes his power on to another”

” Leadership is never about power and control over other’s, as a true Leader knows how to make others better moving forward”

” True Leaders let their actions speak more loudly than themselves, making all around them feel even more special then the Leader himself”

Everything comes as a Mystery

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

We arrive at our destination, we know what we are going to do, but do we really know of how we will accomplish what we are to set out to do? The destination is within the mountains, we plan to hike at least one of them, but we really have no clue as to which trail we will embark on, as each trail has a sort of mystery about it, we really don’t know what to expect? As the mystery creates a sort of fear within us, that pushes us further into the Abyss of this mystery, that has us except the challenge to conquer the fear and explore all that is before us.

We look at the trail signs at the trail head, pull out the map to see just where we really are? Although this may tell us where we are, or which direction to take, this really says nothing of what we may run into along the way on this trail. Maybe erosion has washed parts of the trail away? maybe a Black Bear family has taken up Homestead along the trail? There really is no way of telling, unless we take the first step into the Abyss of this trail.

We take the first steps of our trek, find that the trail leads us deeply into a thick wooded forest, as we try to keep our eyes on the marks of the trail, we find our anxiety rises with the fear from the mystery of the trail. Some parts of the trail, from the erosion of past storms are soft and squishy beneath our feet, now that we have this mud on the sole of our feet, now we have to pay attention on not slipping and becoming hurt, while the closest Hospital is many miles away and with nobody around……. how then do we even get to the Hospital? You always need a contingent plan and then work the plan for which we planned to help us get through the beginning parts of this trail, that now has us deep within it’s Abyss.

The trail now starts to become steeper and the grade has our calf muscles getting to be like a fire inside our legs, we continue to walk this trail, cause we are now sucked into the Abyss, as well as being very intrigued , like finding that their is more to the hike, than what we really have planned. The mountain stream,  working it’s way down the mountain and becoming one with the mountain, as we step from rock to rock, to make it safely to the other side, now we become mixed as the Abyss throws a new challenge at us.

The Trek up the mountain and what the Abyss will come to teach us, go hand and hand with each other, as they both will teach us to Persevere and never give up no matter the odds against us. All trails everywhere will have us travel through the Abyss, because when we learn from God, we can move forward into the Abyss with less fear, as we explore more trails, while we walk  our paths through this journey of life.

” Walk gently into the Abyss, as it is this Abyss that will help us move forward with strength and confidence”

” The Abyss is the mystery that has us except the challenge, to conquer and explore all that is around us”

Good decision/bad decision…Hmm!!!

story idea

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA

The decision for Bill Belichek to kick away the ball at the start of overtime in last nights game, totally lies on him to do so and with his track record over the last fifteen years as the Coach of the New England Patriots, who are we to second guess his decision?

These pictures here are of two totally different paths, just like in life you also have different paths in sports to get to where you want to go. with the way the Offense played last night, compared to the way the defense played, clearly was part of the way Bill made his decision and all these theories we are hearing today, totally lie with the sports media, in trying to stir up as much drams as they can, so they can have a job to stir the drama with. Bill has brought four Championships here to new England over his tenure here, why should we stop trusting him now? Even Tom Brady came out and said the defense played better and he is the common denominator in all the different teams that Bill has coached here.

Talk about the media creating drama in sports, there was a report of Peyton Manning using HGH in the year 2011 after his neck surgery, which this report was later recanted when the reporter came out and said he was wrong, but now the seed of drama is planted and a very hard seed to dig up like the weeds in your green grass. Tom Brady came out in total defense of Peyton, as he is going through the same seed of drama with the deflate gate crap and can totally feel what Peyton is going through. This is, what is wrong with our Society of today, here you have two of the best Quarterbacks in the history of the NFL and there are some out there through jealousy, that will try to take them down, instead of sitting back and enjoying the show that they are putting on, year after year.

True we here in New England may not of liked the call to kick the ball away and pass up the chance to end the game with the offense scoring a touchdown like the Jets did, but when you sit back and review the game inside the game, you can see clearly why Bill made this decision, as the defense out played the offense in last nights game, it is just that it didn’t work out for the Patriots like in years past and with all the injuries to key players, shows that even the mighty Patriots fall Victim to the bug of an injury ridden season, like all other teams throughout the NFL.

With Bill Belichek and Tom Brady, the Patriots will always be in the talk of which teams will go to the Superbowl, but when key players around Tom fall to the injury bug, makes it that much harder to get there and that much harder a pill to swallow, for all the fans around New England to accept. The legacy of Bill and Tom here in New England is winning, but without all the key supporting players around them makes it that much harder to overcome adversity and keep the legacy of winning alive, I can say I was disappointed at the call also, but when I looked at the game inside the game, I clearly saw the reason why he made that call and totally respected Bill for making the call. #inbillwetrust Let us all here in New England always trust in Bill as his track record speaks for itself.

” just as in life, sports has different paths to follow to get to your true destination, hard work and determination shows you the true path to follow”

” Decisions are made everyday in life as well as sports, just that all the decisions made don’t always work in your favor”

” The New England Patriots with Bill and Tom will always be considered a favorite in the NFL, its the right supporting cast around them that keep them one of the favorites”

The road to a Championship

Forest

The road to any Championship within any sport you may play, are full of unknowns, trials and tribulation. Now I am a New England Patriot fan not just of long standing, but I am what is known as the hometown Homey, with that said…….. I have also lived through the toughest of times when these Patriots lost more than they win, now with these Patriots of the last fifteen years winning more than they lose, I have earned the success this team has given me.

Since Bill Belichek and Tom Brady took the reigns of this franchise, the New England Patriots have become one of the best teams within the history of the National Football League, not too mention the best Quarterback/Coach tandem as well. You had the Steeler’s of the 1970’s, the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s that were great dynasties of their time and right now it is the New England Patriots who have become that great dynasty. Unfortunately with success comes the hater’s and in today’s World, the haters are ten times worse than of any other time. You also had the New York Yankees throughout their winning days within Baseball and became the most hated team within their sport, it happens because when a team gets so dominant and beats regularly other teams, it’s the fans that bring out this hatred of the team that their team can not beat.

” a team can only be a Champion when they step up to the plate and beat a true Champion with regularity”

I get the fact that the fans want to play and pick these fantasy teams to compete with each other, but these fantasy games have completely ruined all sports and completely took away any integrity that these sports had.  ” Let the real players stand up and play the game they love to play”. These fantasy teams that the fans pick, are just that fantasy. They are not real teams and from what I see all the other owner’s throughout the NFL, want these fantasy teams to make it look like their teams are doing okay? Roger Goodell the Commissioner of the NFL, is in power from the board of directors of the league and who are these directors? All the owners of all 32 teams in the NFL. When it comes to the New England Patriots, all the other Owners are the ones that have hated on this team the most, simply because they have made their teams look completely silly throughout all that watch the NFL. What I say to these Owners is, time to step up to the plate and beat a real Champion (fair and square) that the Patriots have become, so your teams can have a share of what being a Champion truly feels like.

It is not about the Patriots laying down so other teams can catch up to the curve, it is all about the other teams of the NFL catching up to the Patriots on the field fair and square. These Patriots throughout their history in the NFL have seen times where they lose more than they win, they didn’t whine and cry like the teams of today, no!! They just stepped up to the plate and with much hard work, became one of the best Franchises in the history of the NFL, it’s time the other teams follow the path of these Patriots, so maybe one day they to can become a True Champion.

” A True Champion doesn’t just happen, first there comes dedication, hard work and perseverance”

” instead of whining and crying and creating hate of a team, step up to the plate to beat a true champion and become the champion”

” Hard work is what defines Tom Brady and the number one reason why he has been so good for so long”

” The keeping up with the Jones”…

Waterfall

Who are the Jones? And why do we need to keep up with them?

Who knows when or even why this saying has been around so long? All this saying does is turn each of us against each other and stops us from truly being who we really are. Just like the saying of ” having the American dream”, we all think we know what this is for example, big house, white picket fence, two cars with garages, wife/husband, children, wealth and our own piece of the pie. Unfortunately throughout this Society of today, this American dream has caused us to step on each others shoe shine, to the point no matter what we do, nothing shines around us anymore. We all have our issues and our struggles throughout this journey of life, we all want the American dream and keep up with the Jones part of the pie, but unfortunately we have all gone the wrong way and find ourselves exerting all our energy at swimming up the stream of the waterfall, instead of making it easy and simply flowing as the current down this stream within this picture.

It is okay for some good fun and competition between us, but when this good fun and competition turns to ugliness, like we see around us today, you think we need to truly change and look deeply into everything that is around us? Competition between two Sports Teams is part of the game and the magic word is “game”. We as Individuals who watch these teams, have taken this competition to an all new level, a level that has turned us all against each other, cause we don’t see it as a game anymore, we see the friendly competition between two Teams and have turned this competition into, an ugly competition that has forced us to walk our paths throughout this journey of life, without truly being who we really are.

We all have a purpose in life, we all set our goals so we can find what our purpose truly is. I understand we all have our issues and struggles along our paths, but when we don’t address and fix these issues, the struggles will never end and we will never find out what our true purpose really is. Life is a journey that we all walk along a path, the journey may be the same, as the path and the purpose are all different to each of us, not everybody has to keep up with the Jones to achieve true happiness, as well as not everybody will achieve the American dream for true happiness also, true happiness comes from each of us, addressing the issues and fixing them, so we all can find our purpose and walk our paths in peace, with true happiness along this journey of life.

” The journey through life may be the same, but the path and the purpose is much different to each one of us”

” The struggles and issues of life may have us swimming up stream into the waterfall, but addressing the issues and fixing the struggles will have us swim down stream, making our paths more peaceful with happiness”

” good competition between us is okay, but when it turns ugly is when we have to change the game, to make the competition fun again”

The most Holy Grail of trophy’s……. The Stanley Cup

The Stanley cup is the trophy that is awarded to the last team standing and the winner of the Hockey playoffs. Unless you have played the game, you have no real idea how hard this trophy is to win and it is the hardest trophy to win of all the sports trophies out there. To win this trophy you literally leave everything out there on the ice throughout the entire playoffs.

Hockey is more of a blue collar sport, only because you show up at the rink ready to get down and dirty and work very hard at not just standing up on skates, but stick handling drills, passing drills, shooting drills and turning on a dime while skating full speed and handling the puck drills. Those that have played the game know that there is a lot more than these basic skills I mentioned, there is also the game inside the game, not to mention to a first time watcher, the game seems pretty fast and violent. The violent part is really not that violent, it is only one player checking another player, to get the leverage on him in order to take the puck away from him, A hockey player should also be good at geometry, as it is a game of angles and having good puck sense to be at the right spot at the right time. In order to take the puck away from the opposing player, you have to anticipate where that player is going and take away his angle to make a play and then be at that spot at the right time. Those that grew up during the days of the great Bobby Orr, would see exactly what I am talking about, just that he was so good, he made it look very easy.

A Hockey season may not be as long as a Baseball season, but if it was you would have more players being lost from a team for extended periods, because of the physicality part of the game. Hockey is also a true “Team” sport, you very seldom see just one player carry a team for any length of time, with that said….. when you build a championship team, you don’t just build a team full of talented players, you need team chemistry which will help you build an identity for the team. The Boston Bruins had this chemistry and identity in 2011, to which they won the holy grail of trophies, being Lord Stanley s cup. Now the playoffs in hockey are like no other playoffs in sports, they are basically a whole different season within the season, you have the top eight teams from each conference and whoever the last two teams left are, would make the finals their fourth round of four out of seven games to win each round. there is a total of twenty eight games in the playoffs if a team plays all four rounds to a game seven, with the magic number being sixteen “mission sixteen”, meaning it takes sixteen wins to win this most prestigious trophy. During these playoffs it takes grit and determination by each player of each team, you also have a lot of banged up players, the deeper they go into the playoffs, which makes a hockey player one of the toughest athletes to play any sport.

The Stanley cup is won from literally a lot of blood, sweat and tears, not to mention some broken bones, stitches and a few surgeries later. That hard rubber puck will leave a mark, from a shot traveling over one hundred miles an hour and especially if it hits you in the right place, just imagine being a goalie without the right equipment and having to stop one of those shots? I played goalie and you still feel the impact, even with the right equipment. I have heard some sports Individuals say that, all sports need to let the players have their day with the their respective trophy they have won, like hockey players do? What I say to that is, the trophy you see the players with is not the true Stanley cup, as the true Stanley cup always stays in a glass case within the Hockey hall of fame, in Toronto, Canada. Those three rings you see below the cup itself, has all the players names engraved into it, that have won this prestigious trophy and when one ring gets full, then it is taken out and replaced with another to fill up, you can see all the rings including the real trophy at the hall of fame, but if you are a true hockey player, you never want to touch it, unless you have earned the right to touch it, by making it through “mission sixteen”. Those that watch the hockey playoffs and see the conference champions surround their conference trophy they just won without touching that trophy reason is, because they don’t want to jinx their chance they just earned, so they can compete for the most prestigious of all trophies in sports……….. The Stanley cup.

” Hockey is a blue collar sport, only because be prepared to bring your lunch pail to work, just as the blue collar workers do and work their butts off to achieve success”

” Lord Stanley cup is the most prestigious of trophies, because it is the hardest to win of any sport”

” not every hockey player gets a chance to compete for the Stanley cup, which makes it the Holy Grail of all trophies”
