Such a tragedy in a place that, there is suppose to be peace and serenity, a place where you go to escape the ugliness? Although this poor Individual unexpectedly walked right into it. The Individual in question had served three tours in Iraq, came home not the same man he once was, he suffered from PTSD and depression, his wife says he would sleep all day and either watch TV, or play video games by night, the two had separated as he fell further into depression. Finally one day he wanted to truly find himself again, so he took to the trails of the Appalachian trail. This trail is supposed to be about peace and serenity, while you walk within nature, it helps you to clear your mind and feed your soul, it is not suppose to have any ugliness on the trail at all, but unfortunately, the ugliness found him in the form of an mentally deranged Individual.
This Soldier of three tours didn’t ask for this, as all he wanted was to truly find of who he once was, so he can continue moving forwarded better and stronger throughout this journey. Yes the person responsible was captured and brought to justice, but a little too late for this true American Veteran hero, as now he will never get that second chance, to be of truly who he really was.
Sometimes life just isn’t fair, this journey and all that happens within it, will bring great pain and hurt, this journey will turn us into someone we truly are not, with all the ugliness that is around us, most of the time it isn’t even our fault, as a lot of our pain and sufferings comes from another, or a situation that we have entered into. Then as we try to fix ourselves, it becomes even worse, as we then try to escape into a place where we think is safe, a place that has nothing but beauty all around at every turn, then unexpectedly, we are facing ugliness square in the eyes.
This tragic event within the trails of the Appalachian trail, should really of never happened, as this trail is within mother nature, with all the true beauty you can see far and near, when you plan this hike and take the first step on this great trail, the last thought in your head is any kind of ugly thought. There are many who hike, have hiked and will be hiking this trail, they do so because they have become lost on their path of this journey, they want to embark on a place, where they can clear the clouds of their judgments and truly get back to who they truly are. Depression no matter how you have entered within, will eat you from the inside out, while most of the time you hide deep within yourself and never let anybody in. The great Robin Williams is perfect example, as he brought us all to laughter, while he suffered deeply within, from this silent killer known as, ” Depression”. It can and will strike anybody and does not discriminate. Just like a member of the animal kingdom who prey on the weak for their next meal, so does a mentally deranged Individual prey on the weak, so they can feel more powerful, in their warped and twisted mind. The problem lies with our so called Leader’s who when they need more cash for their agendas, the first thing they cut is mental institutions, so now these Individuals have no where to turn, except maybe those who are around them and in a negative way, instead of a positive way. Yes in depression we don’t want others to know, nor do we not want to acknowledge, we have become victim of this depression, but when we take steps to fight it and instead we find the ugliness, this is what makes the actions so tragic, as we try to move forward better and stronger, along our paths of this journey through life.
” Go from three tours in a hostile place to, back home and try to be the same person you once was”
” The Appalachian trail is deep within mother natures beauty, the problem then lies with each of us turning to the ugliness and burying who we truly are”
